That is great !!!!!!!! I’m very happy for Nate as well as the 49ers team as a whole.

Somehow Davis got in the coach’s doghouse and could not get out. I like this kid and think he has a future in the NFL. We will be ok as long as Smith does not get hurt, that is the big X factor for the year.

I love Nate Davis. I’m excited that he is back. He has a tremendous arm. Hopefully he can put it all together. Let’s getter done, Nate.

I didn’t like that they waived Nate Davis because I believe he can be a starting QB some day with the right mentoring to help him overcome his disabilities.

At least they signed him to the pratice squad where he can develope further. He needs a mentor, the 9ers should get him one.

Nate Davis has the quality of a good NFL QB. Needs more “seasoning on raw talent!” Happy that 49ers kept him, even if its practice squad!

congratulations on keeping Nate. Have practical experience with visual learner and found that adding pictures to text aids the learning process with the situation that he experiences.

Will gladly supply example to 49′ers staff upon request to my private email address.. It makes a tremendous difference for those with that situation.

    Thanks Niners!

He may be slow developing, but the kid can play! At this level, coaches are there to help develop and guide Nate in football and his life. The 49ers are well known to instill the qualities they want in players that have the potential and ability to play for them.

Let’s go Nate! time to tighten up the chin strap and show them that you can achieve the level of play asked of you.

BIG Mistake should have kept J.B.

Wow!! I didn;t think we had a prayer of keeping Nate. I am not one who believes he is ready to be the starting QB but if he gets his head together he can develop into a starter. One thing about today’s NFL that didnt happen when I first started watching in the 60s is rookies were never expected to start their first year at QB but given at least 2-3 years to develop and mature.
    I think the 49ers dodged a bullet.

Good we got nate back!!!! He gots alotta abilities to be a playmaker. Wasnt too sure bout jarret brown. All I know is nate will be better for us. I think the 9ers should go after Randy Moss. Can u just picture how dangerous our offense can be.

  15. By CWash on Sep 8, 2010 | Reply

I was really liking Nate. I think he will be the QB of our future. I think that Jarrett Brown has potential as well. He showed in college that he has natural talent. I don’t know about Randy. I know that Singletary can put him in his place.

Does anybody else think that when Davis comes in, the whole team seems to have more energy?

  17. By Rebecca Gent on Sep 8, 2010 | Reply

I was amazed to hear that we let him go in the first place. He has HUGE potential to be a key player to getting back on track. I was absolutely floored to see some of the plays that he pulled off against the Vikings. I’m glad to hear that he is back, and hopefully will see him soon on the field.

hell yeah we do got nate back! ralph im with you dude nate is way better then brown, if alex fumbles again nate will pick us back up.. Get rid od carr dudes a BUMB… Nate should be our second stringer for sure

why would the 9ers bring back a guy who had a chance now for 2 years and let a guy like brown go who hasnt even got a chance yet, come on i think the niners made the wrong choice on this one.

  20. By JSFaithful49er on Sep 8, 2010 | Reply

I cannot believe that Singletary said he did not bring in Carr to compete for the starting position. I though integrety was a tenant of yours coach? Carr and you, yes you, said that ALL spots are open and Carr said he came there because he said he had a chance to compete for a strating position. It sounds like coach is elluding to the fact that someone other than him said those words. Either way Carr he proved to be a better, more consistent QB than Smith and most importaqntly he is a leader.

YEA DUDE, I LOVE NATE MAN. BUT I THINK SINGELTARY IS SAYING IN SO MANY WORD THAT NATE DOESNT KNOW THE PLAY BOOK. HE IS GOING TO BE LIKE A VICK WHERE WOULD HAVE TO SIMPLIFY THE PLAYBOOK SO HE CAN CATCH ON. NATE JUST PLAYS EVERYTHING BY EAR BUT HE IS SPECTACULAR AT IT WHERE AS ALEX SMITH IS A BOOK WORM AND A NERD AND IS GOOD AND KNOWING THE PLAYS SO HE IS MORE EXCESSIBLE EXCEPT ONE THING, HE CANT GET IT DONE, HE KNOWS IT BUT HIS ACTIONS IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF HIS KNOWLEDGE.

Nate Davis is good but not ready if our starter Q.B was to get hurt and it was up to Davis to step in and play we would lose that game and the rest of the season . Mike Singletary is a smart man . Have faith in Alex Smith if he can stay healthy all season he will amaze us fan. Go Niners!

  42. By niners 4eber on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

The key is our defense and the position on the offensive side our ‘D’ will place them! Let the season begin and this time it won’t be “next year we’ll get into the playoffs” crap!! The FAITHFUL will finally be able to cheer into the PLAYOFFS!!!

  43. By palco on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

I can’t see Nate Davis lasting on the practice squad, He has too much talent. Their must be something their with the Coach. After a few teams sniff around, and baring some other unknown problem beside dyslexia, he will be snatched up. What a shame. he showed more talent and poise, (especially under pressure) than either Smith or Carr.

  44. By Alex "The Man" Ortiz on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

Nice move SF. Hes not the answer right now but maybe someday. Dont loose faith in him coach singletary, many players have overcome dislexia. Nate can 2!! 49ers faithful, keep our eye on the prize, its never been closer.

  45. By MR94505 on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

Good move for the 49ers for sure. Let’s look at what’s going on…
    1) Alex has been given the green light AND the talent AND the coaching to take us to the next level. This is his year to succeed, and I think he will.
    2) The offensive playcalling has gotten better since early last year when we were run/run/pass (on 3rd and long….ugh)/punt. And this is KEY for the 9ers to progress…we need more than a simple predictable offense and we’ll see that this year.
    3) Nate, as much raw talent that he has, isn’t ready to run a complex offense…Carr is more ready…that is why it’s SMITH/CARR/DAVIS.
4)Take the emotion out of it and JED, SING, and the rest of the administrative staff and coaches have done a FANTASTIC JOB over the last year to put us in a position to WIN.

The O line is ROCKIN’ ON AN UPSWING, The D Line is …WOW! The secondary is going to surprise you even more with interceptions and tight man to man defense. The offensive weapons will need some time to gel because of lack of practice together as a unit, but they’ll suck it up and pull it together within a few games.

Overall, our O and D are in a SYSTEM that is going to work, and they know their positions…which is critical to take that next step.

NOW OUR PLAYERS (with the exception of Crabs who needs some more time but is so smart and good he’ll even be ok out of the box) CAN REACT W/O HAVING TO THINK (because of all the practice)… that in itself will give us 4-5 more games.

Let’s face it up until this year the players had to think if they were in the right spot and by that time, the play is over…now it’s going to be automatic to them.

Kudos to A. Smith for working so hard in the offseason…and most of the 9er team as well!

    Can’t wait until Sunday!!

Nate Davis is a good player but will never be a great one..if he knows he has a disability he should have been at niner facilities all offseason with alex…i know you guys are excited about his big arm but ask him if it bailed him out in his last few preseason games..if we wer all watching the same games he started flinging them balls as soon as he was pressured…idk if hell ever make it but im glad we arent taking chances anymore..just ask jemarcus russell if his big arm and speedy recievers wer any good at the nfl level

Very happy for Nate. I think the niners missed making a huge mistake by letting this kid get away. He has heart like Montana and Young. Everything else will take time but I see how special he will be. We have a good core of QBs and if they play decent football with few turovers our team will go places this season. Give Davis time and he will make us great in the future. .

Its good to see Nate back on da team!…I agree with Hector rivera, Nate should back up Alex smith. Carr is ok…Nate just needs time. but if Smith(Alex/Troy) & Carr went down I would not worry much if Nate was in.

  49. By Top Niner on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

Glad to see Nate back. However, if he does not work harder next year and exemplify progress on the field we might want to look at other candidates. We should bring in QB’s to eventual be starters or just as good as a NFL starter except for veterans of course.

The Niners QB situation is ok right now. Smith is looking better everyday. I dont think Carr has a future with us and you already heard my take on Nate. We should be eyeing a high draft pick (1-3 rounds) come next year’s draft. That way when Smith goes down we are confident the back up at the time can come in and play footbal.

I agree that alex smith looks better by the day and he needs to get us out of the hole we r stuck on, also agree that david carr is not the niner future even doh he is a good qb, but i c something in nate davis smith and carr don’t have, there’s something aboit the way he plays he takes me back to montana and steve young, i hope nate puts alot of effort to be better and take smith troy out. Can’t wait till first week we will win.

  52. By WA49erFAN on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

Let’s not forget that this is Smith’s SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR in the same offense! That will help him emmensley! Also, if the o coordinator would utilize smith in more shot-gun, and less under center he would also show even more progress. Furthermore he finally has a full cast of weapons at the WR, RB, and TE, plus a beefed up o-line to protect him. these are luxuries smith hasen’t had in in first 5 years in the league. the pices are in place for the niners to have a big year on offense and defense!

  53. By J.R. Mont on Sep 9, 2010 | Reply

Jim Druckenmiller had an arm like Nate Davis. Don’t be fooled an arm does NOT make a quarterback in this league. Joe Montana had a weak arm but he was a winner. Nate Davis hasn’t even won a roster spot let alone be a starter in the NFL. He’s got a LONG way to go. Singletary has been SPOT on with most of his moves, especially this one.

I like Nate Davis but I agree with coaches decision to cut him. I believe that coach Sing saw that davis was getting to content with where he was and not pushing himself to do better or learn faster. Coach Sing knew davis had great potential but was not seeing the effort by davis to learn and compete for starting job. The best thing for Davis was to get cut and not get picked up by another club maybe now he will have more urgency picking up the offense knowing that his job is not set in stone. “YOU GOTTA GET KNOCKED DOWN TO GET BACK UP” !!!!!

I’m glad they got Davis back. Smith has shown that he has gotten better during the off season. Carr is really garbage, look at his other games before he became a niner. Nate Davis did a good job during the game against the Vikings. The only reason why Nate struggled against the chargers is because he was playing with most of the players that were going to be cut (second/ third string players). They should at least try to let Nate try one game with all the pros and veterans on the niners. He is way better than Carr playerwise. He has a lot of time to progress and will one day lead the team to greatness. Good choice.

Great job (Phew) re-signing Nate Davis to the Practice Squad, I thought the 49ers front office was stupid for letting him go & having him sign on & develop nicely (I would think) in another system. Let’s see if Troy Smith will last long, then if not, the third stringer’s job belongs to Nate Davis once again. Wish they could’ve kept both Tony Paymah & the middle linebacker #57 Greg Wilhem (I think his name is) because they both finished with good preseason numbers in tackles.

nate davis, to me, will be the next great QB for the 49ers. However, Singletary is a hardass, and is not going to let the youngster just come in hand him the team. He is probably building him up and making sure he matures to the great player he has the potential to be. Alex Smith is good for now, but unless he straight up shows up big time, he isn’t the future of the team.
    Your thoughts?

  69. By brwnguyintundra on Sep 11, 2010 | Reply

did anyone else see a MILLION dropped balls this preseason? They should blame the WRs for dropping catchable balls, not Nate. Glad to see nate back, he has great potential. I would like to see his name on the roster for the rest of his career. Stay faithful NATE, use this time to truly learn the game and the offense.

I didn’t see enough of JB, but he looked okay from what i saw.

Troy has a lot of potential but needs coaching too.

David looked pretty solid, kinda like another hill.

And as for Mr Alex Smith. I had your back from day 1. but my patience is wearing thin. if you can’t take this team to at least the nfc championships, i think it’s time to find someone who can.

  70. By Dann Burke on Sep 13, 2010 | Reply

At least Davis can throw a football. Get him back on the 1st team so he can develop faster. He has more potential than Smith.

Now – about this “blinded long-term love affair with Smith”. Stop making bad choices. Did you see the QB for the Packers play this weekend? You picked Smith. Did you see Hill play this weekend? You dumped him for Smith. Now Smith is #1 QB and you place Nate Davis on the practice squad.

When it comes to Smith – you are pushing a wet noodle. Get over this blinded love affair. Your goal should be to win games.

Place Davis back on the Team, develop his potential. Trade Smith to our competitor and use the Smith space to bring in a better seasoned and provened QB.

You say you want winners. Why do you want Smith! Actions speak louder than words.

CAN I GET AN AMEN!!!! Why are we trying so hard to push this guy into a job he is so ill-equipped to handle? We already gave him more years and money than any other team would have.

    Make the trade already!

Nate is the best quarterback we have i watched him in ball state and watched him the past two years in pre-season, he has football i.q. he is a smart quarterback where you have alex smith who makes poor decisions. We will never win a game n matter who we play if 1 alex smith throws interceptions on our side of the field and put our defense in bad cituations and 2 if alex smith has to drop back and throw the ball 45 times are you kidn me.
