On the Phone with Smith and Finneran
Posted by on September 29, 2010 – 1:51 PMBrian Finneran said he can barely remember what he had for lunch yesterday, so of course the Falcons wide receiver will be a little shaky when asked to conjure up seven-year-old memories.
But still, Finneran recalls when 49ers new offensive coordinator Mike Johnson was Atlanta’s play caller for the final two games of the 2003 season. The details are a little fuzzy, but Finneran said Johnson was a “competitor” who has an “aggressive kind of mindset.”
“He’ll find a way to match his guys up where he wants them so they can try to make some plays against us,” Finneran said in his Wednesday conference call with the Bay Area media. “The No. 1 thing is he is just a competitor and he loves to win.”

Monday’s Locker Room Talk: Sept. 27
Posted by on September 27, 2010 – 2:29 PM
Mike Singletary said he made the difficult decision of replacing Jimmy Raye as offensive coordinator after a night-long film review session following his team’s 31-10 loss in Kansas City.
“I came back here and basically spent the night here looking at the film,” Singletary said of his decision to elevate quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson to coordinator and promote offensive assistant Jason Michael to quarterbacks coach.
It was admittedly a difficult decision for the 49ers head coach, but one he felt was necessary after his team had begun the season 0-3 and is currently sitting in last place in the NFC West.

Earlier in the week, the forecast called for rain today, but as of this morning, it looks like it should be a good day for football.
Stay tuned to the blog and follow us on Twitter for updates from today’s game.

On the Phone with Haley and Vrabel
Posted by on September 22, 2010 – 4:26 PMBuilding a good football team is a process. It takes time.
Chiefs head coach Todd Haley knows this, and although his team is 2-0 this season, he said that process is far from complete.
And when he looks across the NFL at where other teams are in that process, one of the teams he believes he’s chasing is the 49ers.

Posted by on September 21, 2010 – 1:02 PM
Before Mike Singletary could highlight the positives (offensive line, Alex Smith, Frank Gore) and explain the negatives of Monday night’s game (four turnovers and a safety); he thanked the 49ers Faithful first.
“It was great to see the fans excited for the game,” Singletary said in his opening comments. “They were effective with the loud noise they made.
“They gave us energy.”
Singletary also praised the contributions of many of last night’s key participants, most notably, his coordinators, his quarterback and his offensive line.
