Rice Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Posted by Scott Kegley on August 8, 2010 – 2:18 PM

CANTON, OH – Team owner John York described the night well.  ”When you put Steve Young, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice together on stage…that’s what makes it great to be a Forty-Niner,” he said.

The current members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame welcomed seven new members to their elite fraternity on Saturday night at Fawcett Stadium.  The 2010 Class adds several elite names of its own.  Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle and the NFL’s all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith, were joined by the league’s all-time leading receiver, Jerry Rice.

Rice, always  concerned with fashion, told the media earlier in the week that he made sure he had his gold jacket tapered.  With the same approach he took to his sharp looking uniform during his 20-year career, Rice had to look the part as he went into the Hall of Fame.

“I made a mistake tonight, I have a blue and a black sock on tonight,” Rice told the crowd as he took the podium. “Just joking guys!”

Below are some photos from the induction ceremony:

Jerry Rice: “The fear of failure is the engine that’s driven me my entire life.”

Joe Montana waves to the crowd after being introduced

Jed York takes his seat prior to the ceremony

Eddie DeBartolo: “When he felt perfect on the field, he WAS perfect on the field”

Rickey Jackson played two season with the 49ers

Russ Grimm: “There’s no better feeling than moving a man from point A to point B against his will.”

Former Detroit Lions defensive back/current Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau

Vikings/Seahawks defensive lineman John Randle

No matter what any football fan feels about the 49ers, if they have any knowledge of the game, it is undeniable and without argument that Jerry Rice is the GREATEST wideout to play the game of football…EVER. (period) No discussion, no argument, no “what about this guy or that guy”. Every other position can be reasonably argued. You are a plain fool if you do. Thank you Jerry Rice for the wonderful memories. I’ve worn your jersey all weekend long and will continue to represent you which is true class!

I also think that Jerry Rice is the best WR ever to play the game and also set new standarss for that position and new standards on what a football player is all about on and off the field.

I am very fortunate to have witnesed Jerry Rice playing football on the NFL. All those memories and good moments. The Super Bowls, the records, the passion for the game. As the years go by, I will be happy to say that I saw Jerry Rice catching pases form Joe Montanta and Steve Young. I will say that I saw those legends on the field playing football and writing the history. Thanks all that!

Jerry, you are sooo cool. I loved watching you strut into the endzone which looked like slow motion. You do have gigantic hands but did you have to talk so long at the podium? Just kidding. I loved every moment of it. Congratulations. Bob the Faithful 49er from Washington.

Here’s a toast to Jerry Rice, LOVE HIM. I only saw him play as a seahawk, but his true team’s the 49ers and we all know that. I own a part of Jerry, bought his worn, signed throwback jersey from a fundraising. You’re the best! Thanks Jerry. (about the sock thing, too bad I am married we could fix that problem) haha

I remember Christmas morning of 2009 as if it was yesterday morning. My point to this is that I’ve been a 49ers fan all my life, On Christmas morning I opened that gift and seen that I was going to see the BEST Wide Receiver to ever play in the NFL to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2010. I was feeling greatful for the fact someone has finally agknowleged Jerry Rice to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I also felt like I was in a great dream and for someone to tell me over and over it’s real. I finally on August 7, 2010 got to meet THE BEST Wide Receiver in person and he is without a doubt a Class Act on and off the field. I will also agree he has a great work ethic and passion for the sport. I would like to thank Jerry Rice for the awesome memories, I might not have been able to be there at a 49ers game while he was playing but I can actually say I was there to meet him in person and to see him being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thats the thing that stinks living in Pennsyvania. It’s hard to travel, but I’ll eventually get to be either at Candlestick park or in time when the new stadium comes out for a great game to see the 49ers in person.

I love the 49ers and always will the first time that I saw Jerry Rice and Joe Montana was at training camp when I was a kid and it was awsome to see the hole team practice was to me dream come true. But the ultimate dream was seeing a 49ers game in person I will never forget seeing Joe and Jerry just go all out. One time I was at a gas station on Woodside Road in Redwood City,CA I saw Joe Montana I got so nervous I didn’t know how to speak to him. Congrats Jerry we miss you on the field.
