do you think under a second season Alex Smith can lead the niners all the way to the playoffs? and if he can NOT, then who can it be? Could it be David Carr, Nate Davis, or Jarrett Brown. My overall question is are these quaterbacks ready to lead their team to the postseason?

Coach singletary some things cannot be coached some men are born with the natural ability to lead the ability to keep there composure under pressure do you feel as I do that the key to every offenses success starts under center so I guess my biggest concern and my question is how is mr alex #1 overall smith going to handle the pressure this year? Because last year it made me sick to my stomach to see alex panic when he felt a hint of pressure! Are there any drills you can run for him to take a knock to the chin and get rid of the ball to a niner reciever because were a quarterback away from a superbowl please and thank you carlos godoy

Leading up to the 2007 season, the 49ers received a lot of positive meda attention and then failed to live up to those expectations. Leading up to this season, the 49ers have similar expectations. Coach, how do you keep your team grounded and focused toward reaching these expectations?

Jed: I realize the 49er organization is at a dissadvantage to many other NFL organizations at this point because of the lack of luxury suites at the present venue. Does this necessarily mean that if this years team demonstrates the potential to be a super bowl contender that the current managment team would be opposed to exceed salary cap spending to acquire players that would “put them over the top” so to speak?

Last year we seemed to have troubles in the first half of games (GB, Houston, Atlanta). These troubles seemed to stem from lack of production from the Offensive side of the ball. From a fan’s standpoint it seemed to be both a combonation of poor game planand to a lesser extent a lack of execution.

What are the plans to play better this year, or are we assuming that the natural progression of Ray’s second year should take care of last years troubles?

Also, Thank you to everyone in the organization for giving Alex Smith the same coordinator for a second season. That had to be the most irritating part of being a Niners fan for the last five years. We have never given the poor kid a chance. By the way who was Hostler, why did we ever hire him, and why did it take us so long that season to get him some help (I.E. the Cal guy, I forget his name)?

Serious football fans around the league realize that the niners have some of the top talent in the NFL at most positions. Our O-line and return game have been greatly improved this off-season and now look to be on the verge of joining the other components of the team that are already being viewed as elite. Any concern on maintaining consistent play at corner?

Why does the 49ers Organization seem to “not” put emphasis on the Quarterback position, when this is a QB-lead league? If our team fails to improve in 2010, won’t that be a final sign to look closely at getting a new quarterback that will lead us into the playoffs every year?

Why do the 49ers spike the ball on first down with 50 or more seconds remaining and against, Miami and Houston, turn the ball over on downs with time remaining?

Also, the 49ers have burned numerous timeouts while on offense, and subsequently unable to challenge calls. Has the efficiency of play calling and clock management been improved?

Will you consider bringing free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens back to San Francisco? Yes we all know that all the teams he’s played for have dealt with his locker room and attitude problems but he’s proven that he can give a decent team a really good chance at winning. Being the hard nosed, no BS taking coach Coach Singletary is, I feel Terrell Owens will instantly be put in his place just like Vernon Davis. Look at VD now. Do you feel it is worth giving him another shot? Crabtree/Owens/Davis would make this offense dangerous. GO FOR IT!!

I know the organization is fully committed to building a stadium in Santa Clara. Most of me is down for this as long as the 49ers remain in the Bay Area. But a small part of me wishes there was a way this team can stay in the city that it has known as it’s home since the franchise started…and that’s San Francisco. Is there a 0% chance that something can’t get worked out with the city of San Francisco or is it a very small percentage?

Do you think now that we’ve drafted two offensive linemen, the shotgun offense will be less used, and more focused on the smashmouth run game? Because of the success Smith had under the spread offense, and the smashmouth offense likely to succeed this year, do you see the team rotating back and forth between Spread and Run, or are you just going to stick with the same gameplan throughout the year?

I dont think there’s a move they could have made differently. I like this give Alex Smith a chance move. What if we drafted a rookie and A/S turned into a pro bowler somewhere else. Dont laugh its not imposible. Imagine that combined with not drafting Aaron Rogers, talk about ugly. That said if we dont win this division this year I wil be embarassed. The 49er’s are going in the right direction in every aspect of their organization. I believe Singletary has shown and will continue to strengthen this team back to it’s winning ways. CEO Jed York wants a RING and I’m confident he’ll get one or two .. The schedule maker’s must love the Niner’s b/c it contains 2 MNF games (w/the Saint’s at the Bay opener) & (Cards ). Sunday Night w/ Philly & Thurs Night w/San Diego plus London . The 49er’s improved their 2 weaknesses from their 2 first rounds picks to improve the O-line with a new Offensive Line Coach Mike Solari. Added Ginn to help with the Special Teams & a new Special Teams Coordinator, Kurt Schottenheimer. The defense will continue to get stronger, but the biggest concern Is Alex Smith. In his last year of his contract, I hope we see this expected break out year. Overall if your a Niner fan, you should be happy with the direction this team is headed. Let’s have a strong & healthy season and let’s get into the playoff’s. 49ER’S FOR LIFE ……….

So called experts are picking the 49ers to win the WEST. I was surprised by the STATS the defense put up. They were ranked 1st and 2nd in some catagories and overall they were ranked 8th in the NFL.

Seeing that lit up my eyes. 49ers owned the division with a 5-1 record but they were not good on the road. I have confidence Alex Smith will make pro bowl if the Oline can give him time and pick up blitzes.

And Aaron Rogers would not have done better if he was in Alex’s position with a different Coordinator every year. I think Alex is better he just needed a better team around him and he got it all around this year. GO ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. What type of a realistic time frame are we looking at for the 49ERS to be superbowl contenders again?
    2. What are the chances of being able to sign our top players next year, which is a long list? Vernon Davis, Alex Smith, Doshon Goldson, Abroyo Franklin and Manny Lawson? Is the team willing to spend this type of money?

Dear Mike Singletary or Greg Manusky,
can you do us all a favor and let Nate Clements play to his strengths. What I mean by strengths is allow him to play bump n’ run coverage more often in games. The dude is a physical specimen, he made the pro bowl in buffalo living on being a bump n’ run corner. Is it based on the packages that you guys choose to have the corners play that far off the wr’s or does he choose to play 15 yrds. off of the reciever as his own choice? Whatever your rationale is, please allow our players to be aggressive and physical. (the vikings game from last year should give enough reasons as to why we should never play soft on defense.)

How does the coaching staff plan to improve on last year’s success in certain passing match-ups? Obviously using Walker & Davis at TE to get a mismatch was nice last year, but the 49ers lack a consistent downfield threat. And please don’t tell me Gin is going to be that guy, because you’re not a threat if you can catch the ball.

I grew up in the Lodi, CA and Manteca, CA areas watching some really good Forty-Niners football. I have been following this team and it’s players, coaches, and Higher Ups such as Mr. Eddie Debartolo and I want to know one thing–are we ready to start winning the games we not only can but should? I was very happy to see the fight from our players (yes,I did say “our” players, because after 23 years of watching my team I feel I can call them “ours” and also, take a look at my Direct TV bill since I now live in Fort Mill,SC and have to pay to watch my beloved Niners). However, we lost so many close games and had so many bad starts last year that we looked ill prepared. Good football teams are ready for anything that may happen in a football game. Even injuries. How can Mr. Singletary change that? That seems like a mental type thing to me. Everyone has to know we”re the best team on that field and we can execute our plays anytime because we know they’ll work. I am hoping this is what I’ll see this year and that our guys can handle the pressure that will be put on them week in and week out. Anything less than a Division title or Wild Card game would be disappointing to say the least. I’m just saying I’ve seen some great football over my 31 years of living and I think Coach Singletary can get this team where it needs to go because he has done it. He is a natural leader and if I played on that team I would give my left nut to win a game for that man. Lets play smart, play physical, and know that the right guys are there now. The talent is there! The coaches are there. No more excuses. Go beat some ass now!

I have great expectations for this year and if we do live up to those these guys are only going to want more money next year. This might cause us to get close and then lose everyone in 2011. I hope our high round draft picks can also get signed so we dont have a situation like Crabtree, last year. These rookies need to know that if they sign a fair deal in this orginazation that after there rookie contracts they will get compensated. If the 49ers want him to be their coach, and evaluate him accordingly, I think the 49ers should provide him with free reign and give him everything he needs to succeed and reach his potential.

Last year (like the year before that) we were not able to finish games by running the ball. Moreover, it was difficult to get short yardage in critical game situations running the ball. Going into the draft and creating depth on the O-Line a good start but we need far better depth at FULLBACK not only for the run blocking but the short passing game as well. One would think that drafting a real fullback (like Rathman was drafted) would be better than spending years trying to convert linebackers to fullback to add depth.
