49ers Tackle London Media

Posted by Taylor Price on July 14, 2010 – 11:01 AM

It’s no secret that Vernon Davis has a thirst for life and an even bigger thirst for travel. The 49ers Pro Bowl tight end has racked up plenty of frequent flyer miles this offseason alone. He’s visited the troops in Afghanistan, served as an honorary captain for the US Curling Team at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and as of Wednesday, Davis was in London to promote the NFL’s 2010 International Series.

Along with owner Dr. John York, Davis is promoting the 49ers upcoming game against the Denver Broncos on Halloween. Head coach Mike Singletary will also make the trek, joining in on the media tour this Sunday.

“I’m very excited to be in London and really looking forward to playing against the Denver Broncos at Wembley Stadium in October,” Davis said to NFLUK.com.

Likewise, York was also eager to spread awareness about the upcoming game.

“We’re excited to be playing here, we’re looking forward to it and it is a Super Bowl re-match against the Broncos,” said York, who serves as chairman of the NFL’s International Committee. “This is a game outside of the United States in a vibrant city like London in the largest stadium for an NFL contest outside of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium and it is a game that, in mid-season, has the atmosphere and feel of a mini Super Bowl. It is a great feeling to be involved in a game like that.”

Davis spent the morning conducting various interviews with reporters from the BBC, Sky Sports, the Evening Standard, Daily Mail, Metro and Guardian. After the morning interviews, Davis conducted a photo shoot with the UK arm of GQ Magazine.

Also joining Davis, York and Singletary in London is 49ers Director of Public Relations Bob Lange, who is keeping fans informed of the latest happenings in London by posting updates to his Twitter account.

For fans interested in attending the game, there are all all-inclusive packages available that include hotel, travel and ticket accommodations.

The Niners vs Broncos matchup could be a one sided blowout with all the negative happenings in Denver surrounding the beleaguered Head Coach and the talent that is just running away from that team just as fast as they can. The QB, their best receiver, their Pro Bowl TE, you name it, they are getting away from that team asap. That Coach Josh Daniels might be fired before this game is even played! And if Tim Tebow is the starting QB, it will be a disaster for the Broncos. As a Niner fan, I dont have a problem with a blowout win, but it would be good to have a competitive game when you are showing off your sport in another country.
