Pro Bowl Update: Week 14

Posted by Taylor Price on December 8, 2009 – 4:34 PM

Pro Bowl balloting is open so make sure you go to nfl.com/probowl to send you favorite 49ers to South Florida.  For the first time since 1980, the Pro Bowl is being held somewhere other than Hawaii.

Several players are having great seasons such as Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis and Aubrayo Franklin, but don’t forget to vote for special teamers like Andy Lee and Michael Robinson.  You can vote as many times as you want, so make sure to vote often!  Here’s a look at what some of the 49ers standouts have done so far:

TE VERNON DAVIS
- Davis is having a career-year, leading the team with 63 catches for 781 yards and 10 TDs. His 10 TD receptions rank 1st among NFL TE’s, tied for 1st in the NFL among all pass catchers and are the most by a 49ers tight end in a single-season in franchise history. He ranks 1st among NFC TE’s in yards and tied for 2nd in receptions.

There should be no excuse for him not making the Pro Bowl this year because he is definitely, in my eyes, far and beyond any tight end in the league,” – 49ers Head Coach Mike Singletary, 11/30/09.

LB PATRICK WILLIS - Willis leads the 49ers with 136 tackles to go along with 3.0 sacks, 2 INTs (1 returned for TD), 2 FFs, 9 TFLs and 11 PDs. According to NFL stats, Willis ranks 2nd in the NFL in tackles (123).

P ANDY LEE
- Lee leads the NFC and ranks 2nd in the NFL with a 41.8 net punting avg. and 48.3 gross punting avg.

LB MANNY LAWSON
- Lawson ranks 3rd in the NFC among LBs with 5.5 sacks, while his 3 FFs rank tied for 2nd in the NFC among LBs.

NT AUBRAYO FRANKLIN
- Franklin leads the D-Line with 68 tackles and 7.5 TFLs. He recorded a crucial INT against Chi. (11/12) and has a career-high 2 sacks. Franklin has helped limit opponents to 3.6 yards per carry (4th in NFL) and the 5th-fewest rushing yards per game (95.8).

RB FRANK GORE
- Despite missing nearly 3 games due to an ankle injury, Gore has still managed to rush for 668 yards and 6 TDs, while ranking tied for 3rd in the NFC in scoring among running backs (54 points).

i think instead of worrying about probowl , maybe winning 9-7 games then the entire team and fans can enjoy seeing them in the post season

Let’s get a winning season, Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis are the only pro bowlers I see on this team…and Vernon needs to stop dropping passes!

I like Manny’s stats. Great job Manny. If the same playmakers are back next season with some upgrades on the roster things will get better. 10-6 next season.

Davis is having a probowl year, but probowlers catch game winning td’s that hit them in the face. With that said I think he will get snubbed by J Witten and Tony Gonzales because it’s a popularity contest..

Patrick Willis is the only player that should be in the Pro Bowl. Vernon Davis drops too many passes when it matters and catches the ones my grandma could catch. He needs to quit making excuses for drops as well!!

Vernon Davis is having a great season and i realize nobodys perfect. But when a game is on the line pro-bowlers don’t drop key passes in key situations! I’m still voting for my favorite niner players better luck next year.

Its always a bad sign when your punter is being mentioned for the pro bowl. Andy Lee deserves it, but I wish our offense had not made him so visible.

Really no reason why this team isn’t sitting at 10-2 instead of 5-7. Frusturating year. Pro Bowl makes no diffrence just the dissapointment the Niners have brought once again : (

Niners screwed themselves by letting Allen Rossum get away.. Vernon needs to work on his catching, Gore is not a very good RB in my opinion.. those big gains he got was due to big holes.. he is no AP, C. Johnson or S. Jackson that can make a play on his own.. the only thing i like about gore is his hands.. not pro bowl material.. P. Willis is P.Willis.. nothing can stop him..

Well, another year, another dissapointment.. i know singletary can give a hellofa speech, but can he win games?? let’s not get fooled by his “smash mouth attitude,” because so far he has proven me nothing other than “almost” winning..

NOOO reason the niners shouldn’t be 10-2 or 9-3 at the worse.TOOO many dropped passes and the defense needs to get off the field on 3r down. Can’t play 10 yards of the receivers when it is 3rd and 5.

Hey I’ll take “almost” winning over the games of last year. This is an exciting team to watch now. Singletary has them moving in the right direction, I can actuly watch the games thinking they are going to win instead of just hoping they could pull an upset. The foundation is set for this to be a great team going forward and that is thanks to the coaching staff and what they have installed.

I think to many people are making it seem like its playoffs or bye bye Singletary. The improvements over last year are dramatic. The team has been competitive and hasn’t had any major meltdowns (except for that atlanta game). We have a good chance of being a 9-7 or 8-8 team this year.

v-diddy is the best tight end in the NFL, point blank period…….

Once again, any comments regarding the Niners turns into a critique of the season to date. Perhaps as it should. Frankly, this team in many ways reminds me of the 79 Niners before they turned into a really good team. Lots of close losses. Pro Bowlers: Andy Lee and Patrick Willis. That’s all I see.
