Posted by Taylor Price on October 7, 2009 – 9:07 AM
The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they have signed first-round draft choice WR Michael Crabtree.
Crabtree (6-1, 214) was a two-time Fred Biletnikoff Award winner, becoming the first ever first-year player to receive the award in 2007. The two-time All-America and Big 12 selection finished his two-year Texas Tech career with 3,127 receiving yards, 41 touchdowns and 231 receptions.
Check 49ers.com throughout the day for more information and reactions from Crabtree and head coach Mike Singletary, who will both address the media.
Those press conferences will stream live on 49ers.com, but a time has not been set quite yet. Check our Twitter page for updates throughout the day including the time of the press conferences.
UPDATE:

Bottom line… we are happy to no longer have this issue hanging on the side, dagling over our heads!
We are the 49ers! Crabtree come on a join the ride rookie.
You finaly got some sense, or did we give it to you with our 3-1 record? Is it that we’re Play-off bound? Or that we are now Super Bowl contenders? If you weren’t a FAITHFUL you are now!
Mike S…he’s all YOURS…
break em’ in!
I love my red & gold, GO NINERS!!!

I am pleased with this announcement but I hope Singletary sits him for a few weeks…he shouldn’t see full action until he knows the offense as well as other WRs and until he is in the same sort of “playing shape” as the rest of the niners roster. If he was smart, while holding out he would have had a rigorous work out routine so he can assimilate into the team and starting line up more quickly. We need a downfield threat and if he doesn’t give DBs something to worry about, no one will !!!

I’m glad this is finally over, but agree that he needs a reality check and there is no one better to give that to him than Coach Singletary. I hope he is able to get up to speed and join the fun that the team has been having each week. He has an uphill battle with the fans, but I think he can get there. He should spend some time with Davis to learn how to act appropriately and just watch and learn. Let’s all hope he produces like he did in college!

HOLD OUT 4 WHAT ? It’s now like he got a different deal…He is college superstar not an NFL superstar… Now we can just play football !

He finally decided to make the right choice in life. We have all the pieces we need to get to the playoffs. Are team has made a drastic change since the 2006 season. We finally have our star WR that we are use to having on our team. Shaun Hill wil get him the ball. All we need is a future QB to take over in the 2011 season and we are all in the mix to win a Super Bowl

GO NINERS!!!! TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!
By Niners Fan in Kansas City on Oct 7, 2009 | Reply
To tell ya the truth, I think some of the reason this occured is because of what Singletary said Monday. I was watching that live, and when I heard it I hoped Crabtree was listening. It was only within an hour that I heard Crabtree was headed to SF. On Monday the media tried to bait Singletary into badmouthing Crabtree, but Singletary mentioned how he still thinks he’s a good kid, and he is usually right. He also indirectly blamed the selfishness on –> what Crabtree was hearing from other people as a rookie. I love/follow the Big 12 closely and watched this kid torch the Big 12, I can’t wait to see him do it for my favorite team!! I don’t worry about him being selfish and hurting us, because if he does Singletary will make him cry literallly, LOL, he already made him cry once!

In a few weeks we’ll have Gore back and Crabtree playing? We’ll be playing with a whole offense, able to go short or long, and Gore running a couple of 70+ yard TDs. Not soon enough for Atlanta, but we should be able to Peyton and his Colts in their proper place week 8.
Mostly I think Crabtree is upset V. Davis has pulled in 3 TDs in the last 2 games. TDs that would have been his.

Finally. We need some help on offense. Niners will win by 10 against Falcons. NINERS’ DEFENSE WILL DEVOUR the falcons’ offense.

Get the kid on the field ASAP so all the hatters shut the hell up! like it or not the NFL is a buisnes. no hard feelings Crabs. VD, Crabs, Gore. sounds like a nasty mix to me!

Fans don’t hold this against Crabtree. He was not the only one that felt that he was the best receiver in the draft. Most people did. It was a shock to him and the Niners that he was available at ten, so tough negotiations pursued. It was the total circumstances, not the negotiating parties that caused the delay. It can happen again to a completely different team and player if the same circumstances were to arise.

I actually wished Crabtree didn’t sign with the Niners. I don’t agree to any rookie making that much money, when they haven’t proven that they can make it in the NFL…ex: A. Smith. Why pay that much money for a guy that hasn’t played a pro game? I wish him the best of luck in the NFL, but I’, not going to be a Crabtree fan. I love the Niners, but I don’t have to like him….
By FaithfulManSince'88 on Oct 7, 2009 | Reply
I dont really care what he did, as long as he’s a niner thats all that matters to me.
He will be a big help on offense to where defenses have to watch out for him.
He’s here, and now he has to earn the respect of his teamates.
WIN THE DIVISION AND WE ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!! WHO’S UP FOR ROASTED FALCON ON SUNDAY!!!!

O.K. the final piece of the puzzle is in place and now we should have a clearer picture. I thank God that Crabtree is finally here and I am excited to see what he can bring to the Niners. I don’t expect anything to great to soon but as the season rolls along I hope the Crabster can bring something special like he did at Texas Tech!….I say Niner Nation let’s just welcome the brother with open arms and show some real love because I know that is how his teammates will treat him also.
We are all united as one….NINER NATION RULES WERE #1 !!!!!

Glad to see the contract debacle is over. Crabtree’s a part of our team now. I’m not going to speculate whether he’s going to be a beast or a bust. Let’s see what this kid can do. Hopefully, he will develop into a premiere wideout as a 49er, and by that I mean a complete wideout who can block, run decoy routes, and play in special teams, and not just a deep threat, or God forbid a diva throw-me-the-ball type of wideout. If he can adapt and learn quickly, stay healthy, and be humble like he said during his press conference, then I believe he can. Coach Sing will keep this kid grounded if that diva attitude that we suspect is in him comes out. I just hope the team will keep doing what they’ve been doing and not let this be a distraction on and off the field. We got a good thing going right now despite our woes on offense. Give Crabtree little assignments here and there and ween him in slowly. And it will be a slow process, and he will make mistakes from time to time, and he’ll probably get all the overly criticisms each time. I’m also sure opposing defenses will be gunning for him. Crabtree’s got his work cut out. I’ll wish him the best as success for him can only mean greater success for the 49ers. Faithful for life!

hopefully crabtree can play like he did in college he had a better record than wes welker with the patriots in receiving yards i think crabtree is goin to be fine im sure singletary is goin to be on him but he forsure needs to prove himself to his teammates. i think with him its going to make the niners that much better.
By niner bred on Oct 16, 2009 | Reply
Plain an simple fact…. We need anything we can get on offense right now. Coach Singletary said it best when he said he is never gone say we dont need more talent. Crabtree brings another explosive threat to our team. Atleast from what we have seen him do at Texas Tech. Everyone is worried bout the diva side of Crabtree but as we have already seen with VD our coach dont play that…lol…. Mike has this team headed on the right path an i dont see him letting them get off track will he is coaching. I welcome Crabtree with open arms to our 9er family as should everyone else. Now if he turns out to be another Alex Smith my opinion might change about him. But wide out is a lot easier transition then qb from college… I will tell you what Crabtree needs to do is take a 15 minute drive to Jerry Rice’s house in the bay area an learn from the greatest an most humble reciever ever to play the game… Regardless of if some fans dont like Crabtree he is here now so like it or dont. We have to move forward an kick this season in the butt an make playoffs… lets go niners…. I wana be like MIke lol
